On Tuesday, August 24th, we welcomed our 2nd little boy, Cohen Myles Hyatt,
weighing in at 9lbs 6 oz!! It was like having a bobble head toddler!
We were shocked at his size and also shocked at how well he just fit right into our cozy little family.
I have to say we weren't sure how Dylan would react, not only for the initial visit to see his baby brother but also when would the newness wear off?
Well, it hasn't! Believe it or not, Dylan adores Cohen and Cohen absolutely loves his big brother.
I love, love, love watching them interact with each other. When Dylan walks into the room and speaks to Cohen, he lights up and smiles almost instantly. This morning, Cohen laughed out loud at Dylan for the very 1st time! Lots of special moments happening around here these days!
Jonathan and I made certain to include Dylan in everything, to make sure he never felt left out.
He talked to my tummy when I was pregnant and every time he asks to hold the baby, we let him.
I don't ever want him to think that he has been replaced...
This is difficult for me, even though Dylan has never shown an ounce of jealously.
I have always heard that no matter if you have 1 or 10 kids, you love them all the same-even thought I didn't believe that.
I never in a million years thought that I could love anyone the way than I love Dylan.
Well, it's possible. I mean, it's not the exact same but I think it's just as much...it's just different! :)
I was only able to take a very short time off of work after having Dylan-less than 2 full weeks, which obviously is not enough time to re cooperate, much less bond the way a new mommy should with her newborn, but that is an entirely different story for a different day.
I am so very thankful that Royal Cup Coffee allowed me to be off work, paid at 100%, for 8 weeks.
I opted to take an additional 4 weeks off, unpaid, but entirely worth it.
This time was amazing and even though I am so sad that it is over, I will never forget all of the wonderful bonding time that Cohen and I enjoyed. And yes, napping daily with a baby is a bonding experience! :)
I had Cohen a couple weeks after Dylan started 1st grade and it was perfect timing. It never really disrupted Dylan's schedule and with Jonathan taking Dylan to school, it allowed me and the baby to not have to stick to a schedule of any kind until we were ready.
I find that I am a lot more patient this go around. I guess I am more comfortable and you just sort of, have to go with the flow! Is there another option? :)
Cohen is now 3 1/2 months old and growing like crazy!
He smiles all the time and really is a great baby. He sleeps on an average of 7-8 hours straight at night, which is great b/c mommy needs lots of beauty sleep!
He hasn't started rolling over yet, but he's close. It's gonna take a lot of momentum to get that big heiny butt up in the air and then over! :) He doesn't really care for tummy time, but neither did Dylan.
His favorite thing is his mobile. He gets so excited and started kicking and cooing the minute I lay him down. I feel bad sometimes that I let him lay in there playing and run in long enough to wind it back up to play more music but dinner has to be cooked, laundry has to be done, etc, and I don't think he would rather be anywhere else! :)
Thanks Aunt Penny!
Watching Jonathan with Cohen melts my heart. Not that he wasn't involved with Dylan, he was, but again, it's just different. Jonathan changes diapers this time around (love you honey!) and can calm Cohen by walking him around and holding him in his own special way. It is wonderful to have such a loving, helpful partner. We find that there is a lot of "tag-teaming". You take this one and I will get the other one :)
But it works! It makes me very sad for all of the single parents out there b/c yes, I know I COULD do it, but I don't want to ever have to!
I love my boys more than anything in the world and I hope that I show them this more everyday.
